FASHIONING THE LONGERONS

The longerons form an important structural member of the finished boat. They mount the wheel. They form the curvature of the deck (all decks). They are an integral part of the radio box. They provide for the attachment of the foam hull. They provide the requisite rigidity for proper operation of the wheel, and provide clearance for the crankarms at both ends.

The longerons are made from good pine lumber without knots if possible. The lumber is planed to the same thickness as the Dubro Steering arm pillow blocks.

Use the table of offsets to construct the saw line for the jig saw or band saw.

Notice the longerons mount the boiler deck both fore and aft. On the fore deck the longeron is below the deck, at the aft position the longerons are on top of the deck.
