You will be proud of your efforts when you see the performance of your completed LIVE NINE rearend. The TOMY/AFX Super G gearset has been shown to be strong and reliable. It will last for a long time.

Assembly Methods and Techniques

Determine how you intend to mount the rearend assembly before final assembly. The "LIVE NINE" rearend can be mounted to the car by drilling the suspension parts with a 1/8" drill and then sliding the axle tubes into the holes during assembly, or by binding the completed rearend assembly to the car's traction bars with braided fishing line and then securing them with a drop of CA applied with an applicator.

Use the worksheet on the reverse side of these instructions to determine the dimensions of those parts you will be making.

The pinion gear is glued to the pinion shaft with CA after reducing the diameter of the pinion shaft to fit the pinion gear hole by turning down the diameter of the shaft over 1/16" of the end of the shaft. Use a mill file or sandpaper while the shaft is turned in a motor tool.

The ends of all the pieces you make should be finished square and smooth, and burr free by holding them perpendicular to a piece of 400 wet-or-dry on your work surface and then sanding the piece in a circular motion, turning it as you go, until a smooth end results. The finished piece should turn smoothly on its corresponding part.

The wheels are most often mounted to the axle by drilling the backside of the wheel with a 3/32" bit and glueing them with JB Weld KWIK or epoxy. It is, of course, important to get the wheels square to the axle. This can be affirmed by spinning the axles between your thumb and forefinger while the wheels are mounted and adjusting them before the glue has cured.
